Long Way Across; A motorbike ride across Australia for childhood cancer

Our Story

Our Adventure is complete and was a massive success, many thanks to all you who have supported us along the way. We all had a fantastic time and are delighted to have been part of this epic trip. Over the next week or two we will be updating our blog with photos and some of the stories of our adventure. Thanks again!

This website is about a bunch of mates who are about to embark on an adventure. We are riding our motorbikes across Australia, by across Australia we mean across the middle trying to minimise the amount of bitumen we travel on.

This trip was concocted in 2009 when three of us were sitting at the pub solving the worlds problems and discussing how great the Long Way Round starring Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor was to watch, next thing we are planning our own trip.

We are leaving Hillary's in Perth on September 4th and we expect to spend the next 17 to 20 days cruising through the remote outback of this great country finishing in Noosa on the Sunshine Coast. We have five riders and two mates in two support vehicles and we are coming together from all over Australia to make this happen.

“The Longway Across for Childhood Cancer is an amazing and inspirational journey and I admire not only the sense of adventure of those involved but also, in partnership with the Telethon Adventurers, their determination to make a difference for children with cancer.  I wish you a safe and successful trip across Australia.” Ricky Ponting

"Hi Andy and Team

Malcolm here wishing you all the best on your adventure!  I was hoping my schedule would open up so I could ride with you guys, but I can't make it.

I have always wanted to do a trip like yours, just a few friends, riding and camping out in the outback of Australia.  Now that you have teamed up with Telethon Adventurers, it’s even more special.  Each year in March I host a big ride down the epic Baja peninsula, as a fund raise for an orphanage we sponsor in Mexico.  It's a great way to help those less fortunate than us.  If your riders are up for another challenge after the outback, I invite them to take on the Baja with us!  They just have to be good enough to keep up with Alexander.  I wish you well and come back over and let's go ridin"!  Who is Malcolm Smith? Well, he is a legend

“Anyone who has ridden a Motorcycle off road can appreciate how challenging your adventure across Australia’s outback will be,

I’m personally inspired by the members of the Long Way Across team and their efforts to raise funds for Childhood Cancer in partnership

with Telethon Adventurers”.

Not only do we expect this to be a great adventure we have partnered up with the Telethon Adventurers to raise money to help fight the war against childhood cancer, Rick Parish and his team are an inspiration to many and we are delighted to have the opportunity to do our bit to assist with this cause, we hope you can help as well, please see the links to Telethon Adventurers www.theadventurers.com.au

We have put this website together for four reasons;

  1. To help raise the awareness and rattle the can for our fundraising mission
  2. To provide a place for us to provide public recognition to those that have supported us and provided guidance and assistance
  3. We having spent countless hours researching what we need, bikes, spare parts, cars, logistics and routes etc so just like Tony Tregurtha and his mates did (bigbore.info) we feel that we should do our bit to help anyone else who may consider such a trip in the future.
  4. Lastly as a place to document our trip for friends family and followers to see where we are at and what we are experiencing

Thanks again and we hope you can help us, if your are interested in donating please go to the Donations and Supporters tab on the main menu

All money raised goes to Telethon Adventurers, we are not fund raising to cover the costs of the trip
